Aug 28, 2024
As I reflect on my career journey, I'm struck by the twists and turns that led me to where I am today – a cloud sales professional with a deep understanding of the technical intricacies and commercial opportunities that the cloud offers. My path to this role was far from linear, but each step along the way has shaped me into the professional I am today.
From Engineer to Architect
My journey began in 2016 in the world of DevOps and cloud engineering, where I was immersed in the delivery and implementation of cloud solutions. In these roles, I gained hands-on experience with cloud technologies, honing my technical skills and learning the intricacies of cloud infrastructure. Some of my main tasks in DevOps and Cloud Engineering were to deploy infrastructure using automation with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tools, develop serverless functions, containerization of applications, and deploying microservices, among others.
In 2019, I transitioned to a Cloud Architect role, where I delved deeper into the creative aspect of the role – designing complex architectures that met the unique needs of each client. Some of my main tasks in Cloud Architecting were to create highly available, elastic, secure and cost-efficient designs and understand customer pain points and translate that into solutions.
Transitioning to Cloud Sales
In 2021, I made the leap to cloud sales – a move that would completely change my perspective on the cloud. Suddenly, I found myself with a 360-degree view of the cloud ecosystem, from the technical implementation to the commercial opportunities it presented. My background in engineering and architecture gave me a unique advantage in this role, as I was able to translate complex technical concepts into tangible business value for clients.
The Advantage of Technical Expertise
One of the key advantages I've found in my transition to cloud sales is my deep understanding of the technical aspects of cloud technology. Having worked in roles across the cloud lifecycle, I have a holistic understanding of how the cloud works – from the nuts and bolts of infrastructure to the strategic opportunities it presents for businesses.
