I’m thrilled to announce the launch of my latest book: Azure China: The Complete Guide, now officially available on Amazon in both eBook and paperback formats.

This book is the result of years of hands-on experience helping Western companies navigate one of the world’s most complex and opaque cloud markets. Whether you're a cloud architect, CTO, product leader, or business strategist, this book is your ultimate playbook to understand, implement, and scale cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure in China.

Why I Wrote This Book

Since 2019, I’ve had the privilege of supporting over 40 companies—mostly from Europe and the U.S.—in their journey into China’s cloud market. It all started when one of my clients struggled for months to deploy infrastructure in Azure China due to service limitations, account restrictions, and legal complexity.

That project changed everything. I realized how little public documentation existed for Azure China, and how different the experience was from Azure Global. From that moment, I committed myself to helping global businesses bridge that gap. This book is the culmination of that work.

What You'll Learn Inside the Book

Azure China: The Complete Guide breaks down everything you need to know, whether you're just starting or already operating in China. Here's a taste of what’s covered:

  • Step-by-step guide to setting up an Azure account in China (including screenshots and guidance on legal documents).

  • In-depth analysis of the regulatory environment: Cybersecurity Law, Data Security Law, MLPS, and PIPL.

  • Comparison of Azure China vs Azure Global, covering console differences, domain structure, service availability, and endpoints.

  • Architecture recommendations for deploying resilient, high-availability systems within the Beijing, Shanghai, and Hebei regions.

  • Networking and connectivity strategies, including how to deal with the Great Firewall, ExpressRoute, and cross-border data challenges.

  • Best practices for compliance, data residency, and security.

  • Ten real-world case studies, from e-commerce scalability to global analytics integration and hybrid cloud strategies.

  • A full glossary of Azure China terminology to help demystify concepts for new readers.

  • Useful links and resources, including Azure support plans, partner networks, compliance documentation, pricing calculators, and training portals specific to China.

This is not just a theoretical guide—it’s filled with field-tested insights, real-world implementation lessons, and hard-won knowledge from the trenches of Azure China projects.

Who Should Read This Book?

If you work in IT, cloud infrastructure, product development, or business operations and have any involvement in China—this book is for you.

Whether you're an Azure Certified Solutions Architect, a project manager deploying global services, or a startup founder expanding into Asia, the Chinese cloud market is too big to ignore. This book helps you cut through the noise, avoid costly mistakes, and go to market faster.

Even if you have no immediate plans for China, understanding how Azure operates in this region will sharpen your global cloud strategy and regulatory awareness.

What Makes Microsoft Azure China So Different?

Unlike other Azure regions, Azure China operates in isolation. It’s run by one local partner—21vianet—and requires a completely separate account, support contract, and even console interface. Not all global services are available, and the roadmap is unique to the Chinese market.

Very common services, or even certain very adopted features are not available. Connectivity across borders is heavily regulated. Data residency laws are strict and enforced.

This is not just another Microsoft Azure region—it’s a different world. And that’s why this guide is so important.
